Look at the great things we are doing this year!
Ms. Campbell's class won the Bully Prevention Poster Contest for Grades 3-5 with their "Team up Against Bullying Poster"
Ms. Mis's class won the Bully Prevention Poster Contest for Grades K-5 by Engineering ways to stop bullying.
Student Athletes from NC State's Wolfpack Blitz came to read to our 3rd graders. They read them stories, provided each of them their own chapter book, and talked about how important reading is. It was a great opportunity for our students!
This team from Lifepoint Church and L&M Company provided Holiday gifts to over 200 of our Brentwood Community!! Thank you!!
In Kindergarten we read a book about giving, and discussed ways we can give "presents" to family members without spending money. We wrote down ways to show we care and love our families this holiday season.
On October 13th-17th, we celebrated "Buddies not Bullies Week" at Brentwood. We did theme days such as "Team up Against Bullying" and wore our favorite sports gear. We learned about what to do if someone is being unkind as well as what we can do to spread kindness. The classes participated in a poster contest. The winner was Ms. Mis's Class!!
We are learning about perseverance and goal setting this week. The older students are watching videos and setting specific, measurable goals for themselves. The younger students are learning what it means to never give up and to keep trying!
Here is an example of a 1st grade goal sheet. First we read Mia Hamm, Winners Never Quit. Then we talked about things we would like to be good at. We also talked about times we get frustrated or upset when we are working towards our goals. Lastly, we created a book with all of our goals.
On November 19th we had a attendance incentive program celebration. 55 students competed in the attendance program and in the end, earned a chick fil a breakfast!
Bully Prevention Week was a huge hit! We had a class poster contest, and Mr. LaNasa's 4th grade class won the contest! They will be rewarded with a treat and a pass for a free game of miniature golf at Adventure Landing. Great job to all the classes who participated in the poster contest, and to all the people who participated in our theme days!
Our students are enjoying the activities that focus on the character trait of the month. Featured here are self portraits from Ms. Wilson's class. The students in Kindergarten learned about self-respect and feeling proud of what they do well!
School Visitors
Theater for Change came to Brentwood to work with all of our 4th and 5th grade students. This interactive program helped students develop ways to successfully and peacefully handle bullying and other tough decisions they may face during their everyday life.

Classroom Lessons
I have been coming into classrooms to do lessons with students about respect. We are learning to respect ourselves, others, and the environment. These are a few books I have been using with K-2.
